The Halser Ilzschleifen nature reserve is a nature reserve in the Lower Bavarian city of Passau and the municipality of Salzweg in the Passau district .

location

On the northern outskirts of Passau, below the Oberilzmühle reservoir , the Ilz , which comes from the Bavarian Forest , is held up by a gneiss foothills in its course leading south to the Danube . Instead, it makes its way in two meanders through the softer slate layers of the Aicha-Halser secondary pile . This is where the Passau district of Hals is located with the Hals castle ruins .

Since the beginning of the 1990s, efforts have been made to connect the federal highway 12 and the federal highway 85 with the federal highway 3 via a north bypass . A bridge would cross the river north of the Ilz loop. The opponents of this project founded the citizens' initiative Nature ja - Nordtangente no! - Association for the Preservation of Ilz- and Gaißatal e. V.

By ordinance of November 17, 1993, the approximately 91.5 hectare Halser Ilzschleifen nature reserve was created along the course of the river. It extends to the Ilz, its meadows and parts of the accompanying slopes. The river landscape is characterized by a narrow, wooded valley from which sunny rock heads protrude.

plants and animals

The Ilzufer is from beech , spruce , fir , alder , English oak , hornbeam , ash , sycamore , maple and lime trees planted. The greatest plant rarity is the shaggy spurge , which only occurs here in Germany , other specialties are soft lungwort , white germer , alpine currant , pied monkshood , mountain knapweed , Siberian iris , plane-leaved buttercup and Austrian chamois .

In 2002 an inventory of the nature reserve identified 133 species of moss, 25 of which were liverworts and 108 mosses . The sulfur lichen grows on the rock faces. Rare animals include beavers , otters , black woodpeckers , dippers and kingfisher .

The rock face at the beginning of the Triftsperr breakthrough, shaped by the black-growing goat clover , leads to the flora and fauna of the dry, hot rock heads. These are populated by mountain donkeys , branches grass lily and white sausages . On the rocks of the ruin Hals grow elderberry iris , cymbal and stonecrop . Wall lizards and smooth snakes live in the crevices and crevices .
