Location and landscape
The Handlesberg – Haberkogel group is located around 35 kilometers west of Wiener Neustadt and 25 kilometers northwest of Neunkirchen , between Gutensteiner Klostertal and Schwarzau in the mountains in the upper Schwarzatal . It extends in a south-west-north-east direction about 15 km, with a width of a good 10 km.
It forms the south-western subgroup of the Gutenstein Alps. Its main mountains are the Handlesberg ( 1370 m above sea level ) near Schwarzau, the Edlaberg ( 1096 m above sea level ) near Rohr im Gebirge and the Haberkogel ( 1041 m above sea level ) between Rohrer Sattel and Unterberg .
Boundary and neighboring mountain groups
According to the Austrian mountain group structure according to Trimmel , the group has the number 1867, and belongs as a subgroup to the Gutenstein Alps (1860, AVE 23), a subgroup of the Lower Austrian Limestone Alps (1800).
It is bounded by Trimmel (clockwise from the northwest, border lines in italics, high and low points with kote):
- in the north-west and north of Zellbach near Nöster ( area , mouth of Langseitengerinne at 644 m above sea level ) upwards - Rohr im Gebirge - Klausbach - Haselrast ( 728 m above sea level ) - Nesselgraben - Steinapiesting to Gutenstein ( 481 m above sea level) ) to the Unterberg – Jochart group (1867)
- in the southeast of Piesting ( Klostertal ) up to Potzenhof (mouth of Klausgraben) to the group of the Dürren Wand (1862)
- in the south up to the Klostertaler Gscheid ( 764 m above sea level ) - Voisbach - Voismaut (on the Schwarza, 589 m above sea level ) to the Schneeberg group (1854, part of the Schneebergalpen 1850)
- in the west of Schwarza upwards via Schwarzau Markt to Gschaiderwirt - lower cell brook to Obersberg (1843, is part of the Göller-Gippel-Zug 1840)
Outline and summit
- The main ridge of the group runs in an S-shape from Gutenstein over the Kleiner and Großer Geiskopf ( 1006 m above sea level ) to the Haberkogel ( 1041 m above sea level ), then south over Haselrast - Winsakogel ( 948 m above sea level ) - Rohrer Berg ( 980 m above sea level ) - Rohrersattel - Streimling ( 980 m above sea level ) - Winsaberg ( 1008 m above sea level ) - Hahnstab / Wildföhrenstein ( 948 m above sea level ) - Handlesberg ( 1370 m above sea level) A. ) - Baumeckkogel ( 972 m above sea level ) to Voitsmaut
- A side ridge runs from Hahnstab between the upper cell stream and Paxbach over the Kienstein ( 976 m above sea level ) to Edlaberg ( 1096 m above sea level ) towards Rohr
Hydrography and geology
The west side of the group is the catchment area of the Schwarza of the Leitha , the east side of the Piesting area of the Fischa . The small brooks in the group go largely star-shaped from the Handelsberg-Hahnstab area.
The group belongs entirely to the Northern Limestone Alps of the Northern Alps (Eastern Alpine Permomesozoic , Triassic - Lower Cretaceous ). The northern part of the group is bankiger Hauptdolomit (here Oberkarn - Obernor , 230-210 mya), the central part of older Wettersteinplatz dolomite ( Laden - Cordevolian to 240 mya), southern follows again the handle Berg Hauptdolomit, the transition of the sub-mount blanket for about donating Göller- Ceiling as two of the partial ceiling of the Ötscher ceiling . The southwest flanks around Schwarzau are younger, small clods of Dachstein limestone (Anninger limestone ), Plassenkalk , Ramsaudolomit and Flachwassergosau , which are documented in the Falkenstein Nature Park .
Especially the Südschrofen of the Handlesberg and the valley near Schwarzau show some caves.
