Hannes Strebel (born August 27, 1942 in Zurich ) is a Swiss architect (HDK SIA) who has specialized in the revitalization of old industrial plants and settlement projects.
Life
Hannes Strebel was born in 1942 as the son of the sculptor Karl Strebel and spent his youth in Uetikon am See ( Canton of Zurich ). He studied architecture and sculpture at the Berlin University of the Arts . After studying in Paris and Moscow , he specialized in the revitalization of old factories and, since 1975, has developed numerous projects for converting factories that are no longer in use into mixed residential complexes. He is one of the pioneers of conversion architecture in Switzerland.
philosophy
"During the revitalization, the focus is on monument protection, especially since I refresh the epoch-typical appearance of a historical building during the redesign and thus create a style-appropriate and socially compatible integration in the townscape and landscape."
By revitalizing old factories and industrial plants, Strebel strives for a careful adaptation to the changed social and economic framework conditions. In doing so, it makes an architecturally, ecologically and socially relevant contribution to the responsible revitalization of local culture.
engagement
As a member of the Zurich Homeland Security, Strebel saved the "fertilizer construction" of the chemical factory in Uetikon am See from being demolished in 2001 and campaigned for the protection of the so-called "pioneer factory", which is the oldest surviving part of this industrial ensemble. In November 2012, the Federal Council placed the chemical factory ensemble under its protection and placed it on the list of sites of national importance (ISOS) .
Under the name "U-Park" Strebel developed a process for the creation of underwater parking in cities plagued by traffic
In 2014 Hannes Strebel published the master plan for Lake Zurich 2050 (Plan Hecht), which received a great deal of media attention. The plan postulates the following measures: subway ring around Lake Zurich , motorway tunnel Rüti ZH - Wollishofen , bike trail on the old railway line around Lake Zurich, cross-connection of the lake villages with speedboats, complete lakeshore path around Lake Zurich. Of these measures, the following had already been carried out by 2019: lowering of the railway between Zurich Tiefenbrunnen and Thalwil , public lakeshore path in Zurich, Küsnacht and Wädenswil .
