Hanns Hoffmann (architect)
Hanns Hoffmann (born September 4, 1930 in Verden (Aller) ; † August 27, 2014 in Düsseldorf ) was a German architect .
Life
After graduating from the Domgymnasium Verden , the pastor's son studied architecture at the TU Darmstadt from 1949 to 1954 . a. with the urban planner and architectural historian Karl Gruber and the author of the building design theory , Ernst Neufert . Hoffmann was an assistant in the chairs of Graf, Gruber, Neufert and Theo Pabst . While still a student, he won first prizes in competitions for a memorial in Verden and for the town halls in Koblenz.
After a period of freelance work with various architects in the construction of churches and schools and numerous successes in competitions, Hoffmann set up his own office in Münster in 1957 and focused on building schools, churches and community centers.
From 1964 a branch office was maintained in Kiel in connection with the Schleswig-Holstein chapel building program .
In 1980 he moved to Düsseldorf, where Hoffmann devoted himself intensively to the work of the association and died shortly before his 84th birthday. Over 40 Protestant community centers, 17 churches as well as schools, homes, social and economic buildings were built in the course of his work; furthermore some private houses. Parts of his estate could be saved in the Archive for Architecture and Civil Engineering NRW in Dortmund.
