Johannes Kai

Johannes Kai (born October 13, 1912 in Cairo ; † October 3, 1999 ; born Hanns Wiedmann ) was a German writer , screenwriter and film director .

Life

Hanns Wiedmann in 1936 at the University of Munich to Dr. phil. PhD. He initially wrote novels and short stories, mostly with a military content. After the end of the war he got an order from the magazine Revue for a sequel story and since he was not allowed to write under his name due to his past during the time of National Socialism , he chose the pseudonym Johannes Kai, based on his place of birth Cairo .

At the beginning of the 1950s he switched to film and wrote scripts for entertainment films , especially homeland films , mostly in collaboration with colleagues . He also wrote the first draft for the Karl May film The Slave Caravan and co-directed its sequel, The Lion of Babylon .

At the beginning of the 1960s, Constantin Film proposed him to expand the author base of the Edgar Wallace films . Gerhard F. Hummel commissioned him to adapt four Wallace novels: The Banknote Forger , The Door with the Seven Locks , The Betrayal Gate and The Black Abbot .

Kai also had a considerable share in the first Winnetou films, unnamed. In Waldfried Barthel's holiday home in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he and Hummel worked out the first drafts for The Treasure in Silbersee , Winnetou Part 1 and Winnetou Part 2 in retreats lasting several weeks .
