Hans-Jürgen "Hennes" Sulk (born June 23, 1944 in Hamm ; † September 16, 1996 ) was a German handball player and coach . The left winger was three times German champion with TSV Grün-Weiß Dankersen and played for the German national team .

Career

Sulk started playing soccer in his youth and was an excellent decathlete . One of his special abilities was his speed, which he benefited from when he switched to handball in the left wing position. In 1963 he was awarded the TuS 59 Hamm Youth Westphalia Champion and received appointments for the WHV selection. In 1964 he moved to PSV Dortmund in the league. In 1965 he was first invited to the DHB youth team and made his debut in qualifying for the 1967 World Cup on November 27, 1965 at the away game in Mechelen against Belgium for the German men's national team. In the course of his successfully completed sports studies at the Sports University in Cologne, he also acquired the football teacher diploma. In February 1968 he joined the reigning German champions TSV Grün-Weiß Dankersen and from then on worked as a teacher at the Herder-Gymnasium in Minden . At the same time, he began his coaching career at TSV Rothenuffeln. With Dankersen Sulk was three times German champion (twice field, once hall) and field handball European cup winner . However , he missed the final of the German field championship in 1971 against TuS Wellinghofen with an injury and had to end his career at the age of 28 in the following season due to a hand injury and began studying biology.

In total, he completed eight international matches for the German national team (six indoors, two on the field), in which he scored ten goals.

As a coach, he was also German champion in 1972 with the A-youth from Grün-Weiß Dankersen and from November 1972 trained the regional division TuS Eintracht Minden , with whom he was relegated to the top division. In December 1973 it was announced that Sulk would be the new coach of the Egyptian national team from 1974 . Shortly before taking up the position, however, this project failed due to political concerns and he continued his work at Eintracht Minden. In 1974 he went to the regional league club SVH Kassel , but returned after one season to Minden and took over Grün-Weiß Dankersen in the Bundesliga . In the final game of the German championship, however, they had to admit defeat to VfL Gummersbach just under 11:12. This was followed by other jobs at TuS Minderheide, regional league team TuS Spenge , women's Bundesliga team TuS Eintracht Minden, VfB Holzhausen II , Bundesliga team TBV Lemgo and second division TuS Nettelstedt , mostly no longer than a year . After that, Sulk was no longer active as a coach for a few years before he worked again briefly for the clubs SG Hohnhorst / Haste, SG Veltheim / Lohfeld and VT Bückeburg . In Bückeburg he had to resign in January 1996 for health reasons. On September 16, 1996 he succumbed to liver and bowel disease.

Sulk had been married since 1969 and had two children. In the meantime, he was also active as a football coach and trained for half a year in 1972 for the regional division SV Weser Leteln and in 1983 for the B-youth regional division SV Minden 05 .
