Hans Laurel
Hans Lorbeer (born August 15, 1901 in Kleinwittenberg ; † September 7, 1973 in Lutherstadt Wittenberg ) was a German writer.
Life
Hans Lorbeer was born illegitimate to the maid Emma Kalb and grew up with foster parents (Hermann and Pauline Lorbeer, née Altekrüger) in Kleinwittenberg and Piesteritz . After completing his professional training as a plumber, he worked as an unskilled worker in various chemical companies in and near Wittenberg. In the 1920s he worked as a visual artist and created numerous drawings and oil paintings, mostly nudes and landscapes. In 1918 he became a member of the Free Socialist Youth , in 1921 a member of the KPD . In 1928 he was one of the founders of the Association of Proletarian Revolutionary Writers (BPRS). He wrote for the KPD newspaper Klassenkampf in Halle and from 1927 for Die Rote Fahne . Due to political agitation he was dismissed from the Central German nitrogen works in Piesteritz in 1925 and was unemployed until 1933. In 1930 he turned to the KPO opposition and wrote in their press. In 1931 he was expelled from the KPD as a Brandlerian for violating the party line, the expulsion was annulled in 1945. In 1932 he joined the KPO. From 1933 to 1934, Lorbeer was imprisoned in the Lichtenburg concentration camp . Because of anti-fascist resistance work (including contact with the Weise group ), he was in prison and in the moor camp from 1937 to 1939 . He then worked as an unskilled worker under Gestapo supervision.
From May 8, 1945 to July 31, 1950, Lorbeer was mayor of Piesteritz and then worked as a freelance writer until his death.
Hans Lorbeer was a member of the Academy of Arts of the GDR and an honorary doctorate from the Philosophical Faculty of the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . For his literary work he received the Heinrich Mann Prize in 1959 , the National Prize of the GDR in 1961 , the Handel Prize of the Halle district in 1963 and the Lion Feuchtwanger Prize in 1971 as well as the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver and gold and the Order of Labor . On August 8, 1976, the Lutherstadt Wittenberg council decided to posthumously appoint Hans Lorbeer an honorary citizen of the city. From 1970 he was registered as a social security employee with the code name »Laurel« at the GDR State Security .
