Johann (Hans) Patsch (also Pätsch ; * 1600 in Landeck , † after 1646 ) was a Tyrolean baroque sculptor .

Life

Hans Patsch studied with an unknown and presumably insignificant master and, at the age of 18, carved the altar for the plague chapel in Biberwier as his journeyman's piece . From 1619 to 1623 he then received further training from the Swabian sculptor Christoph Rodt in Neuburg an der Kammel . He created altars for churches in the Tyrolean Oberland and Vinschgau and preferred the splintery fold style of the Weilheim school . He is considered the first important sculptor of the early Baroque in Tyrol and his teacher Rodt as an equal. Hans Patsch can be traced back to Merano in 1646 . One of his students was Michael Lechleitner from Grins .
