Hans Heinrich Reese (born September 17, 1891 in Kiel , † June 23, 1973 in Madison , Wisconsin , United States ) was a German football player and neurologist . He played both in the club and in the national team as a left full-back . During his athletic career, he devoted himself to the study of medicine and later became a professor in the United States.

Reese belonged to the Holstein Kiel club based in his birthplace , for which he was active from 1908 to 1923 in the championship held by the North German Football Association . He was defeated in his first season at senior level in the semi-finals yet Eintracht Braunschweig with 1: 2, he won in the following season , the 7: 1 against Werder Bremen won the final at the North German Championship, as well as the on April 23, 1911 6: 1 won against Eintracht Braunschweig. In 1917 he received his doctorate in medicine from the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . In 1924 he accepted an offer from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in the United States and worked in the field of neuropsychology , both as a researcher and as a lecturer . As a professor , he quickly built a reputation as an excellent neurologist and an effective and popular teacher. For a long time he studied the effects of various drugs and diseases on the human nervous system . In 1940 he took over the management of the neuropsychiatric department from William F. Lorenz. In 1956 he divided the two areas of psychiatry and neurology , of which he remained sole director until 1958.
