Hans Walter Kämpfel
Hans Walter Kämpfel (born June 22, 1924 in Dünzing near Ingolstadt ; † April 22, 2016 in Zorneding ) was an orchestra conductor and composer as well as general music director in Aachen and Bremen .
Live and act
After graduating from the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich in 1942 , Kämpfel studied at the Academy of Music in Munich, today's Munich University of Music and Theater, with Hans Rosbaud , Joseph Haas and Rosl Schmid, among others . He then began his musical career in 1947 as a répétiteur at the Bavarian State Opera . In addition, he was at the same time an employee of Karl Amadeus Hartmann in the concert series Musica Viva of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation , which aimed at the performance and dissemination of new music in Germany.
He then worked for a few years as Kapellmeister at the municipal theaters of Gelsenkirchen and Augsburg and as head of opera at the Stadttheater Zürich , before he accepted a call to Aachen in 1958, where he succeeded Wolfgang Sawallisch as general music director at the Aachen theater there . On September 1, 1961, he finally moved to the Bremen Philharmonic in the same position , where he stayed until 1968.
After a period filled with various guest contracts, Kämpfel took over from 1974 to 2004 as chief conductor of the symphony orchestra of the Kulturverein Zorneding - Baldham e. V. in Upper Bavaria . In addition, in 1990 he founded the Bavarian Classics , a 40-piece classical orchestra with experienced musicians from the symphony orchestra of the Kulturverein Zorneding, and strengthened it with soloists and renowned guest musicians, depending on the program. With the Bavarian Classics he made numerous guest appearances in Munich, Frankfurt am Main, Geneva, Graz and Shanghai. With a chamber music formation from this orchestra, Kämpfel was a guest in 1995 in the ancient theater and in the archaeological museum in Bodrum / Turkey and in the Seagarden in Antalya and in the Ankara Opera House . From 2004 he retired from all functions due to reasons of age, but kept the direction of the serenade concerts until further notice.
During his entire career, Kämpfel has repeatedly received guest contracts at the renowned opera houses in Bochum, Zurich, Graz, Barcelona, Lisbon, as well as at the Teatro La Fenice Venice, Teatro Verdi Trieste, Teatro San Carlo Naples. He has performed with well-known orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic , the Limburgs Symfonie Orkest Maastricht, the Northwest German Philharmonic Herford, the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Firenze, the Ankara State Orchestra, the Mozarteum Salzburg , the Athens and Thessaloniki State Orchestras and the Philharmonic Orchestra Nagoya, Tokyo and Sapporo.
On June 30, 2001, Hans-Walter Kämpfel was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon by the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and Art for his numerous services .
