Hans von Helms

Hans von Helms (born May 25, 1899 in Schiffbek ; † December 13, 1980 in Bernried ) was a German politician ( NSDAP ), member of the Reichstag , SA leader and ministerial official.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1917 at the Johanneum in Hamburg, Helms volunteered and took part in the First World War as a soldier until 1918 . He then completed a degree in physics and mathematics in Hamburg, Berlin and Göttingen . In 1922 he was at the Georg-August University of Göttingen with the work "About the influence of electron emission on the temperature distribution in glowing tungsten wires " Dr. phil is doing his doctorate . From 1923 to 1930 he worked as a research assistant in the mining industry. From 1930 to 1933 he worked as a research assistant at the Reich Patent Office . During his studies he became a member of the Association of German Students in Göttingen , Strasbourg-Hamburg and Berlin .

After the National Socialists came to power in 1933, he was promoted to government councilor and moved to the Reich and Prussian Ministry of the Interior as a personnel officer . In addition, from the beginning of the late summer of 1933 to July 1934, he was SA officer in the Berlin police headquarters and personnel officer for the higher police service in the Ministry of the Interior. After he was appointed to the Oberregierungsrat on March 1, 1934 , he joined the staff of the Fuehrer's deputy ( Rudolf Heß ) on February 1, 1935 as a clerk for civil servant issues . In this function he ran for the Reichstag election on March 29, 1936 and received a mandate. Helms remained a member of the Reichstag in constituency 9 ( Opole ) until 1945 . In 1937 he was promoted to ministerial councilor .

In September 1939 Helms was appointed regional president of Linz at the Reichsstatthalter Oberdonau and in 1940 he was appointed head of the military administration of southwest France. In 1941 he returned to the Reich Ministry of the Interior as a ministerial director and head of the personnel department. In September 1942, Helms was also appointed as the successor to the late SA Oberführer Karl Lönneker as an honorary member of the People's Court. From November 1944 until the war ended in 1945 Helms finally was governor in Munster . He also took over the provisional management of the State Insurance Institution of Westphalia.

Political party

Helms became a member of the NSDAP and the SA in May 1922 and was therefore also a holder of the Golden Party Badge . In March 1925 he rejoined the NSDAP after it was re-established, but was struck from the membership file in December 1925. In April 1930 he again joined the NSDAP. In 1935 he was appointed Reichsamtsleiter of the NSDAP. In the SA Helms received the rank of SA group leader at the end of January 1942 . During the Nazi era , he held leading positions within OSAF .

After 1945

At the end of the war, Helms first went into hiding. In June 1945 he was dismissed as governor by the Allied military government. In December 1945 he was arrested and taken to the Camp 7 internment camp in Hemer . From 1952 he received a pension as a senior councilor. From 1956 to 1958 there were legal disputes with the state of Lower Saxony about the revocation of appointments and promotions.
