Hattie Winston
Hattie Mae Winston (born March 3, 1945 in Lexington , Mississippi ) is an American singer and actress .
Life
Winston was born in Lexington, Mississippi, and grew up in Greenville. She began her career on Broadway in The Tap Dance Kid and became a member of the Negro Ensemble Company . She has been married to composer Harold Wheeler since 1978 and they both have an adopted daughter named Samantha.
Winston was best known in Germany for her portrayal of the nurse Margaret Wyborn in the sitcom Becker at the side of Ted Danson . From 1998 to 2004 she played the maternal and resolute consultation assistant Margaret in 129 episodes, who helps the resident doctor John Becker professionally and privately.
In addition, Winston played the mother of surgeon Chris Turk in the series Scrubs .
In the United States, she achieved great fame primarily for her roles in the series The Electric Company (1973–1977, 520 episodes) and Homefront (1991–1993, 42 episodes).
