Haus und Hof is a documentary film by the DEFA studio for documentaries by Volker Koepp from 1980.

action

Isolde Sperling is introduced, who works as a department head for irrigation and melioration in the LPG plant production in Hennickendorf (Nuthe-Urstromtal) . She is a member of the Luckenwalde district council , where she works in the environmental protection commission. Her husband Jürgen is a musician and together they have an 8 year old son.

Isolde shows the film team several situations, which contradictions arise in daily life. The wastewater of the city of Luckenwalde is disposed of in a forest , as the arable land can no longer absorb this amount due to overload. In an LPG management meeting it becomes clear that she has to fight hard to get her ideas implemented. She also criticizes the method of letting the district determine the cultivation plan down to the smallest detail without the LPG having a say. Four years have passed since her studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin and it took some time before she noticed the many differences between the theory she had learned and everyday practice, down to the last detail.

Isolde also talks about her private life, for example about her grandmother, who owned a 35 hectare farm and whose rings she wears today. The camera shows how she is helping her parents in the garden and says that her mother certainly cannot complain about her. Even the frequent absence of her husband from work does not have a negative effect on the marriage. But she also tells how ready she is on some days after work, even though she often just sits in the office. The idea of studying agriculture came to her in the 9th grade and she has not regretted this decision to this day. Isolde then lists her voluntary activities, including the work already mentioned in the district council, then she is also a member of the Workers and Farmers Inspection (ABI) , in the Woltersdorf municipal council and in the company commission for culture and social affairs .

Production and publication

The black and white film Haus und Hof was shot by the artistic working group document under the working title Isolde and had its festive performance on September 18, 1980 at the Berlin Kino International

The dramaturgy was in the hands of Annerose Richter.

criticism

In the Berliner Zeitung , Henryk Goldberg wrote in his contribution to the 3rd National Festival of Documentary and Short Films of the GDR in Neubrandenburg :

“The film was more stimulating for discussion than few others, but I saw it with divided feelings. Koepp lets a young woman give her own statements who are able to stimulate overarching discussions and questions. The reserved, almost brittle manner with which this film is made, however, complicates the human-personal approach to the partner he has in front of the camera. "
