The Lelkendorf Pet Park is a year-round animal park on the edge of the Mecklenburg Switzerland and Kummerower See nature reserve . Mainly old, rare and endangered domestic and farm animal breeds are kept and bred in family herds and groups.

The pet park is located in Lelkendorf in the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , about 13 kilometers northeast of Teterow . The Lelkendorf Pet Park was founded in 1992 - at that time still as a zoo. Obstetrician ?? For the Lelkendorfer project was the then pet protection park Warder (now called Arche Warder ) in Schleswig-Holstein with its director Jürgen Güntherschulze.

Ark Park

The Society for the Preservation of Old and Endangered Pet Breeds (GEH) awarded the Lelkendorf Pet Park on June 24, 2012, on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the title “Arche Park”. This made Lelkendorf the sixth zoo in Germany to carry this title. This award is only given to those public institutions that have been committed to the preservation of old and endangered livestock breeds for many years and actively make this visible to the public. The manager Jürgen Güntherschulze retired at the end of 2017. The Federal President awarded him the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon. This was given to him in November 2018 by Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig .

Duration

The stock includes almost 400 animals whose breeds are acutely threatened with extinction. Many are on the GEH's Red List of Endangered Domestic Animals . Extract from the list of domestic animal breeds kept in Lelkendorf:
