action

Max Conners and her daughter Page are a successful marriage swindler duo. The latest victim of her trick is Dean Cumanno, who allegedly cheats on Max with a young woman (Page) the day after her wedding. The result is an immediate divorce with a high settlement for Max. Previously, Page had made it a condition that this should be their last coup together. But an employee of the tax authorities turns up at the bank who has attached all accounts, so the two women have to continue to “work” together. In reality, however, this woman is Barbara, an accomplice and former “teacher” of Max, who thereby ensures that Page sticks to the line. The next victim is said to be tobacco entrepreneur William B. Tensy. His housekeeper wants to inherit Tensy's fortune and get rid of Max. Page hides numerous items belonging to Max and William in their apartment, and the housekeeper is arrested for theft. Page is hired as the new housekeeper.

However, Tensy dies before Max is married. When the two women want to remove his body from a hotel, Dean Cumanno appears, who wants to win Max back. He recognizes Page and realizes that he was set up by the two women. To appease him, Max promises to repay the $ 300,000 settlement. When she tries to withdraw the money from her account, it turns out that Barbara, Max's accomplice, has cleared all of her accounts.

Page has now fallen in love with the bar owner Jack Withrowe and wants to marry him. Since he has received an offer of three million dollars for his bar, he is now to become the new victim of Max, who poses as Pages cousin, in order to pay off her debts to Dean. Max tries to seduce Jack on their wedding night in order to stage the affair necessary for a divorce. When this fails, she drugged him and went to bed with him, where they were caught by Page. Page receives a severance payment from Jack, which she hands over to Max. Dean doesn't want the money anymore and accuses Max of being a bad mother. Max realizes that she has hurt her daughter, although she actually wanted to protect Page from the disappointments of love. She then tells her daughter the truth about Jack's alleged affair. Page and Jack make up, as well as Max and Dean.

Dean made Max a requirement to become "respectable" now. However, she asks him a favor beforehand: Dean approaches the fraudulent accomplice Barbara in order to steal the money she stole from Max. Max watches his successful advances with satisfaction through binoculars.
