The Hechenberg is a mountain range in the Karwendel in Tyrol . It is part of the north chain , which it is located in front of the south-west and reaches with the Kirchbergköpfl a height of 1943  m above sea level. A.

geography

The Hechenberg stretches from Zirl in the west to the Innsbruck district of Kranebitten in the east. To the northwest, the Hechenberg is delimited by the Ehnbachklamm from the Erlspitz group , to the northeast and east by the Kranebitter Klamm from parts of the northern chain with the Großer Solstein to the north . To the south, the Hechenberg, which is otherwise largely dominated by forest, plunges into steep rock faces towards the Inn Valley .

Summit points on the Hechenberg are from west to east the Möslkopf ( 1168  m above sea level ), the Kleine Wandkopf ( 1346  m above sea level ), the Hochwandkopf ( 1579  m above sea level ) with the Martinswand , the Finstertalegg ( 1468  m above sea level ) above sea level ), the Kirchbergköpfl at 1943  m above sea level. A. is the highest point of the massif and the Hechenbergl ( 1411  m above sea level ).

Development

The normal route leads from the Neue Magdeburger Hütte from the north as an easy hiking route to the Kirchbergköpfl. From Kranebitten a more difficult, partly insured path leads over the Hechenbergl to the summit. Other smaller trails open up the western and southern part of the Hechenberg, which is also crossed by the Mittenwaldbahn with numerous tunnels and galleries.

The Hechenberg is also important as a climbing area , numerous routes by well-known climbers such as Matthias Auckenthaler and Reinhard Schiestl lead through its south face. The Martinswand below the Kleiner Wandkopf in particular is one of the most important climbing areas in Tyrol.

In 1981 Franz Oppurg died here , who in 1978 had made the first solo ascent of Mount Everest .
