The Holy Cross Church or Cross Finding Church is a Catholic parish church consecrated to the Holy Cross in Rimlingen in the Saarland , a district of the municipality of Losheim am See in the Merzig-Wadern district . In the list of monuments of the Saarland the church building is a single monument listed.

history

The oldest part of the church is the tower built in the 12th century . The actual church building was erected in 1744 and expanded between 1960 and 1961 according to plans by the architect Toni Laub ( Saarwellingen ).

Furnishing

The church's furnishings include the basalt altar made by sculptor Albert Schmitz ( Kottenheim ) with a depiction of the Easter lamb with a victory flag from 1988. Together with the altar, Schnitz made the basalt ambo with the symbols of the 4 evangelists in the same year and a stele for the tabernacle .

The goldsmiths Hans Alofs and Hans-Karl Schmitt ( Trier ) made the tabernacle out of bronze , and also designed it inside. On the front there is a depiction of the finding and exaltation of the Holy Cross, on the sides there are symbols of the Eucharist .

The altarpiece on the back wall of the choir is by painter Albert Kettenhofen ( Harlingen ). It is worked as a mosaic and depicts Christ coming to the Last Judgment . Representing the large crowd, he is flanked by a blessed and a damned.

The stations of the cross are made of Mettlach mosaic.

A bronze cross that was originally hung in the church has been attached to the outside of the church since 1989.

organ

The organ on the gallery was built in 1972 by the organ building company Eduard Sebald (Trier). The abrasive loading -instrument has 13 registers , on two manuals and pedal . The playing and stop action is mechanical. The pitch is 440 Hz. The tempering (tuning) is equal.
