Kyriakon (former Holy Spirit Church)

The Heilig Geist Church was the Catholic church in Hohegeiß , a district of Braunlage in the Goslar district in Lower Saxony . At last it belonged to the parish of the Holy Family with its seat in Braunlage, in the Nörten-Osterode dean's office , and was the highest church in the Hildesheim diocese . The church was named after the Holy Spirit and was located at Kirchstrasse 24a. Today the nearest Catholic church is ten kilometers away in Walkenried .

history

After the Haus Ebersberg recreation home at Kirchstrasse 24 had been purchased by the Hildesheim diocese, Catholic services were held there until the Holy Spirit Church was established. The Evangelical Church of the Heavenly Gate was previously used for this purpose.

The Holy Spirit Church was built next to the home in 1971 , and on July 31 of the same year its benediction by Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen took place .

In 1994 the 79-year-old pastor of Hasselfelde , Wilhelm Lehnert (1915–2010), took over pastoral care of the parish in Hohegeiß in addition to his service in Hasselfelde. In 2002 he retired and moved to a nursing home in Nordhausen.

In 2003 the home last used as a Caritas family holiday home was closed. From January 1st 2007 the church belonged to the deanery Nörten-Osterode, before that it belonged to the deanery Goslar. On November 23, 2008, the church was profaned by Vicar General Werner Schreer . Most recently about 100 parishioners belonged to the catchment area of the church, and holiday guests also attended the services. The entire building complex was sold in 2008. Since then it has been used as the Hogeyz hostel, which is now called the Kyriakon church, also for religious purposes.

Architecture and equipment

The church was built around 628 meters above sea level as a prefabricated concrete church with a free-standing bell tower. A number of other churches of this type were built in the Diocese of Hildesheim, for example in 1969 in Altenwalde and Sudmerberg , 1970 in Dungelbeck , Meckelfeld and Poggenhagen , 1971 in Afferde , Luthe , Meine , Schwanewede and Winsen (Aller) , 1972 in Gifhorn , Ronnenberg , Stederdorf and Wittingen , 1974 in Vorwerk , 1975 in Dransfeld , Münchehof and Rodenberg , and 1976 in Rhüden .
