Heinrich Bürcky (born July 23, 1895 in Frankenthal (Palatinate) ; † August 4, 1973 there ) was a German officer, most recently major general in World War II.

Life

Bürcky's parents were Jacob Bürcky and his wife Elisabeth geb. Gettert. His father came from Albisheim (Pfrimm) , where the family settled as Mennonite migrants from Switzerland at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries . Jacob was a teacher at the Karolinen High School in Frankenthal. Heinrich Bürcky attended elementary school in Frankenthal and graduated from the Humanistic Gymnasium in Ludwigshafen in 1914 .

Empire and Weimar Republic

Bürcky joined the 18th Infantry Regiment "Prince Ludwig Ferdinand" of the Bavarian Army in Landau in the Palatinate on November 2, 1914, three months after the beginning of the First World War . After a Fahnenjunker course in Döberitz , he was transferred to his regiment on the Western Front on April 17, 1915 . There Bürcky was promoted to lieutenant on June 2, 1915 and transferred to the MG company at the end of February 1916. In the further course of the war Bürcky acted as platoon and company commander , temporarily deputy regimental adjutant and second adjutant of the 6th Infantry Brigade .

After the end of the war and return home, Bürcky was in command of the 6th Infantry Brigade as a demobilization officer until the end of May 1919. This was followed by his takeover in the provisional Reichswehr and employment as commander of the headquarters of the Reichswehr Brigade 23. From there he was transferred to the Reichswehr Infantry Regiment 46 at the end of September 1920 and was then platoon leader in the 12th from January 1, 1921 Company of the 21st (Bavarian) Infantry Regiment . After repeatedly completing the infantry and artillery courses in Döberitz , he became company commander in his regiment in 1934.

Third Reich

When he was accepted into the Wehrmacht , he worked as a tactics teacher at the Hanover War School for three years in 1935 . In 1938 he became commander of the 1st Battalion of the 62nd Infantry Regiment of the 57th Infantry Division , which took part in the attack on Poland as a reserve of Army Group South . As a lieutenant colonel , he became commander of the 528th Infantry Regiment of the 299th Infantry Division in February 1940 .

On October 1, 1942, he came to the Fahnenjunkerschule VII in Milowitz in Bohemia as a colonel and commander . On January 20, 1944, he was promoted to major general. On March 15, 1944, he went to Potsdam as the commander of all ten infantry schools for Fahnenjunker . From October 19 to November 15, 1944, he attended a division leader course in Hirschberg in the Giant Mountains ( Silesia ), which enabled him to take over the 159th Infantry Division from Major General Friedrich-Wilhelm Dernen on December 11, 1944 . On April 20, 1945 he was taken prisoner of war , from which he was released on June 28, 1947 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen .

Federal Republic

After the Second World War, Bürcky returned to Frankenthal. There he submitted to the Frankenthal city administration in 1962 under its then mayor Dr. Hahn for the establishment and organization of civil civil protection and air protection.
