Baron Henry Isaacson of Newfort (* 10. April 1813 in Worlington , Suffolk ; † 3. September 1896 in Timisoara ) was an imperial officer ( Field Marshal Lieutenant ) and commander of the 34th Infantry Division troops and military commander of Timisoara.

origin

Isaacson came from an old, originally Jewish family who converted to the Anglican rite in the early 18th century , obtained the title Esquire and later provided a number of Anglican clergy in England .

biography

The son of the Anglican pastor Esquire Charles Stuteville (Stutterville) Isaacson entered Austrian military service. In 1838 the sub-lieutenant was promoted to lieutenant and brigade adjutant in the 1st Dragoon Regiment.

In 1858 Heinrich Esquire Isaacson appeared as a lieutenant colonel in the cuirassier regiment of King Maximilian of Bavaria No. 2, where he was promoted to colonel. By the highest resolution of October 3, 1860, he was appointed commander of the cuirassier regiment King of Bavaria No. 10.

During the war with Prussia in 1866 at the Battle of Königgrätz he was part of the Northern Army in the 3rd Reserve Cavalry Division under Major General Karl Graf von Coudenhove in the Quantum Brigade as commander of the Cuirassier Regiment, King of Bavaria No. 10. Due to his bravery, he became King of Bavaria he was awarded the kk Military Merit Cross (KD.) .

As a further consequence of his behavior in the war, he advanced on November 9, 1867 (rank of November 12 of that year) to major general and commander of the 3rd Brigade in the 16th Troop Division in Sibiu .

On April 23, 1873 (rank of April 27 of the year) he was promoted to field marshal lieutenant and commander of the 34th Infantry Troop Division and military commander of Timisoara. He held this post until his retirement on February 1, 1878.

After converting to the Roman Catholic faith, on April 16, 1878, Emperor Franz Joseph I raised him to the status of Austrian baron with the title “von Newfort” and awarded him the Order of the Iron Crown, 2nd class.

The baron was also decorated with the royal Bavarian commander's cross of the Order of Merit of St. Michael .
