Heinz Eggebrecht

Heinz Eggebrecht (born February 16, 1916 in Oberkaufungen ; † June 17, 1994 in Berlin ) was a German colonel and district administrative manager of the Ministry for State Security (MfS) of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). From 1962 to 1971 he was head of the MfS district administration in Magdeburg .

Life

Eggebrecht, son of a miner , attended a secondary school and became a commercial clerk . In 1937/38 he worked as a warehouse manager in the Army Equipment Office in Kassel . In 1938 he was drafted into the German Wehrmacht and fought as a simple soldier in World War II . In May 1945 he was taken prisoner by the US , but was released after just three days.

After the end of the war, Eggebrecht joined the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and in 1946 became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). At times he worked as a chemical worker and then as a wage clerk in Böhlen . In 1946/47 he attended a course for new teachers in Koethen and became a primary school teacher.

In April 1950 Eggebrecht went to the MfS and was hired by the Eisleben district office . In September he moved to Department IX of the Saxony-Anhalt state administration in Halle (Saale) , responsible for investigations. In 1952 he moved to the Magdeburg district administration, where he became head of the same department. From 1955 to 1957 he completed a distance learning course at the German Academy for Political Science and Law "Walter Ulbricht" (DASR) in Potsdam , but only made a partial degree in philosophy and economics . In 1960/61 he attended the party college "Karl Marx" of the SED. After further studies at the University of the Ministry for State Security (JHS) in Potsdam-Eiche , he became a qualified lawyer in 1968 .

In 1962, Eggebrecht, as the successor to Reinhold Knoppe , was promoted to head of the Magdeburg district administration of the MfS and in 1964 to colonel. At the same time he was a member of the SED district leadership in Magdeburg. In 1971/72 he was assigned a special task to the Central Enlightenment Administration (HVA), the GDR's foreign intelligence service in East Berlin . From 1972 until his retirement in 1982, Eggebrecht was an officer on a special mission and head of the central office of the sports association (SV) Dynamo (successor to Helmut Welz). On May 26, 1974, he was elected to the DTSB Presidium at the 5th Gymnastics and Sports Day . Eggebrecht, a member of the UIPMB council , was elected chairman of the newly formed material commission at the congress of the International Association for Modern Pentathlon and Biathlon (UIPMB) in Lahti in February 1981 .
