Heinz Gries (2015)

Heinz Gries (born May 17, 1935 in Kobern-Gondorf ) is a German entrepreneur who made a significant contribution to the sweet and savory biscuits manufacturer Griesson - de Beukelaer . He also established the Gottlieb Anton Foundation and the Heinz Gries Foundation .

Act as an entrepreneur

Heinz Gries was born in Kobern on the Moselle and grew up with three siblings. After completing his banking apprenticeship, he joined his parents' company Griesson in Kobern in the 1950s and, in 1966, after the death of his father Hans Gries, took over the management as a representative of the third generation. Heinz Gries paid off his three siblings and became the sole owner of Griesson , which until then had mainly produced seasonal pastries with gingerbread . In 1969 Heinz Gries opened a new factory in Polch . In his first decade as an entrepreneur, he developed a year-round range and launched soft cake in 1977 , with which he ended the seasonal dependence on gingerbread. In 1979 he moved the company headquarters from Kobern to Polch. From the start, Heinz Gries strived for consistent technology and cost leadership. In 1993 a plant was set up in Kahla , Thuringia . In 1998 he brought Andreas Land to Griesson, whom he also had a stake in the company. Under their joint direction, Griesson merged with the De Beukelaer part of the Danone Group , the pastry division General Biscuit Germany and General Biscuit Austria , to form Griesson - de Beukelaer . The company developed into the market leader in Germany in the sweet and savory biscuits market and an important player in Europe.

Heinz Gries resigned as managing director of the company at the turn of the year 2008/2009. In 2014 he brought his majority stake in the family business to a family foundation he had set up ( Gottlieb Anton Foundation ).

Professional and social engagement

In addition to his professional tasks, Heinz Gries was also involved in professional areas and interest groups, including since 1955 as a member of the Federal Association of the German Confectionery Industry . Here he took on various offices at federal and state level.

In 2004/2005 he also established the non-profit Heinz Gries Foundation .
