Heinz Kotthaus

Heinz Kotthaus (born March 15, 1917 in Goch ; † March 20, 1972 in the Black Forest ) was the honorary mayor of Düren .

After graduating from high school in 1937 at the Collegium Augustinianum Gaesdonck , Kotthaus studied history and philosophy. 1948 doctorate he with a thesis on the foreign word in Thomas Mann in Bonn to Dr. phil. From 1949 to 1950 he was a student trainee for German and history at his old grammar school in Gaesdonck. In 1951 he became a teacher at the Krefeld- Uerdingen grammar school . From 1953 to 1972 he worked at the Stiftisches Gymnasium in Düren, since 1963 as head of the school. From March 19, 1961 to March 29, 1963, Kotthaus was a member of the city council of Düren. On April 6, 1961, he was elected mayor. After re-elections in 1963, 1964 and 1969 (the election period was extended from one year to five years in the 1960s), Kotthaus died in office in 1972.

Kotthaus was a member of the CDU and also a board member of the German Association of Cities. After him, Friedhofstrasse at the old Catholic cemetery (Konrad-Adenauer-Park) was renamed Dr.-Kotthaus-Strasse. Heinz Kotthaus' predecessor was Heinrich Spies , his successor was Wolfgang Vogt .
