August Klotz
Christian August Klotz (* 6. October 1857 in Burg (bei Magdeburg) ; † 28. December 1925 in Hannover ) was mayor in Düren .
Life
Klotz was the son of a landowner. He studied law at the University of Göttingen and became a member of the Corps Brunsviga there in 1877 . After a position as a court assessor in Hanover, he became a senator and police director in Lüneburg . After that he was elected second mayor in Mannheim .
Klotz became mayor of Düren on June 14, 1894, succeeding Hubert Jakob Werner . Elected by the liberal majority, he managed to bridge the differences between the liberal and the Catholic-clerical faction. During his tenure, the city park was redesigned. Electricity plant, slaughterhouse, hospital, theater, museum and several schools were newly built. On September 12, 1905, Klotz received the title of Lord Mayor . After 27 years of service he left on 1 July 1921 in the retirement . Ernst Overhues was his successor .
After his death on December 28, 1925, Klotz was buried on January 3, 1926 in a grave of honor in the new cemetery .
Honors
- Appointment as the fifth honorary citizen of the city of Düren on July 7, 1921.
- The previous Lindenpromenade was renamed August-Klotz-Straße on September 22, 1932 .
