Ernst Overhues

Ernst Clemens Maria Overhues (born December 22, 1877 in Salzbergen , † April 27, 1972 in Menden ) was Lord Mayor of Düren .

After studying law in Marburg, Kiel, Göttingen and Berlin , Overhues did his doctorate at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In 1908 Overhues became Senator for the Magistrate in Recklinghausen . Two years later he became mayor of the city of Menden. On July 8, 1921, he was elected mayor of Düren. The Prussian Ministry of the Interior awarded him the title of "Lord Mayor" on December 18, 1922.

Before the Second World War , Overhues was a member of the Center Party . During his term of office, the Passive Resistance and the Rhenish Republic fell . On September 15, 1933, he was retired by the National Socialists . Overhues then moved to Berlin . After the city was attacked in 1943, he returned to Menden. Overhues was also vice-president of the Reichsstädtebund , board member of the Rhenish city ​​council and the association of urban and rural communities.

His predecessor was August Klotz , his successor was Peter Josef Schmitz .

He was a member of the student associations KStV Winfridia Göttingen , KStV Askania Berlin , KStV Baltia Kiel and KStV Thuringia Marburg .

Honors

  • In 1947 the previous Lendersdorfer Weg , later Hermann-Göring-Damm , was renamed Dr.-Overhues-Allee in Düren .
  • In 1967 Overhues was made an honorary citizen of Menden.
