Hubert Jakob Werners

Hubert Jakob Werners , (born January 20, 1831 in Buscherhof, now Düsseldorf-Stockum , † April 2, 1894 in Düren ) was the first full-time mayor of the city of Düren.

All of Werners' predecessors worked as mayors alongside their normal jobs. He was the first professional mayor.

After he was mayor of Andernach , he was appointed mayor of Düren on August 25, 1868, and succeeded Peter Carl Brauweiler . He was re-elected in 1880 and 1892. On August 27, 1893, he became mayor. The title was given to him by the King of Prussia ( Wilhelm II. ). During his 26-year tenure, Werners made a particular contribution to the history and folklore of Düren. He died in office on April 2, 1894. He was succeeded by August Klotz .

On September 9, 1914, Franzosengasse and Friesenstrasse in Düren were renamed Wernersstrasse in honor of Hubert Jakob Werners .
