Heinz Ungureit

Heinz Ungureit (born August 24, 1931 in Hövel, today part of the Bockum-Hövel district in Hamm ) is a German media journalist.

Life

Ungureit came from a family of miners and attended a grammar school in Hamm. He studied journalism , German and history at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . First he worked for newspaper editorial offices in the Hamm area. In 1959 he became the features editor of the Frankfurter Rundschau . In 1966 Ungureit switched to ARD , where Franz Everschor and Hartmut Grund set up the film editorial team. In 1975 he became head of the ARD film editorial team.

A year later he went to ZDF and became head of the main editorial department for television plays and film as well as deputy program director. In 1985 Ungureit was promoted to director of European satellite programs for the television station, which he remained until his retirement in 1996. At the same time, he remained chief editor-in-chief for television plays and film until 1991. From 1994 to 1996 he was also the youth protection officer at ZDF.

Together with Alexander Kluge , he drafted the film-television agreement , in which television broadcasters have since participated in cinema productions.

He worked with numerous well-known directors such as Ingmar Bergman and Werner Herzog ( Fitzcarraldo ). In 1973 he received the Berlin Art Prize and in 1996 Heinz Ungureit was honored with a special honor at the Adolf Grimme Prize for his life's work . In 2007 the German Film Academy made him an honorary member.

Before his television career, he wrote articles for the magazine Filmkritik for years .

Ungureit lives in Frankfurt am Main .
