history

Helmbach, which only consists of a few houses, was first recorded in 1702. In 1928 the place called Helmbacher new Sägmühle had 44 inhabitants who lived in eight residential buildings. Both the Catholics and the Protestants belonged to the parish of Elmstein at the time.

traffic

Rail transport

In 1909, with the opening of the Lambrecht - Elmstein cuckoo railway , the town was connected to the railway network. In 1960 the local passenger traffic, which had always played a subordinate role due to the sparse population, was discontinued. Today's Helmbach depot is located at 9.18 km. It has a siding that is connected from the direction of Lambrecht. During the time of the Bavarian State Railways it was called Helmbacher Sägemühle and was run as station type 2, which meant that it had "passenger, luggage and express goods traffic". The platform at that time was located between the level crossing of the road leading to the south and the 104 switch, which is still in place today. In freight traffic, timber loading played a major role, which is why the station was equipped with five switches, two side ramps and a head ramp. In addition, he had two loading tracks, one of which was connected to the main track from both directions. The current platform is at the level of the siding.

Road traffic

State road 499 runs through Helmbach and connects the place with Waldfischbach-Burgalben and Frankeneck . From this the Kreisstraße 18 branches off to the south, which leads to the Hornesselwiese . In addition, the place is connected to the local traffic via the bus route 517 of the transport association Rhein-Neckar , which connects it with Neustadt an der Weinstrasse , Lambrecht (Pfalz) and Iggelbach.

tourism

Helmbach is on the Saar-Rhein-Main long-distance hiking trail .

economy

The main branch of the economy is the sawing industry. A local company from this branch was the company J. Seeber & Sohn GmbH & Co. KG , which was dissolved in 2007 and existed since 1872.
