Iggelbach is a district of the Elmstein municipality in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Bad Dürkheim and has around 800 inhabitants.

Iggelbach lies at 375 m above sea level. NHN in the center of the Frankenweide , as the middle part of the Palatinate Forest is called, in the southern municipality. The place is surrounded by forest areas. The eponymous Iggelbach , an orographically left tributary of the Helmbach , flows through the town in an east-west direction in a so-called high valley. In the closer catchment area there are several mountains such as the Brogberg in the west, the Blattberg and the Schindhübel in the southwest, the Bloskülb in the northwest and the Bierenberg in the southeast. With the sky Beech , the Gamsbuche , the means oak , the fire beech , the Stamminger wells , the cats wells , the Schiller man wells , the wind holes and the Bloskülbrundsicht are also within several natural monuments .
history
"Uegelnbach" was first mentioned in history in 1399 and a related hamlet of elmstein castle called. The Thirty Years' War led to the decline of the village, which was only repopulated in the early 18th century, mainly by families from Switzerland, Tyrol, Bavaria and Huguenots . Until the end of the 18th century the place belonged to the Electoral Palatinate . As early as 1800 Iggelbach formed a community with the neighboring Elmstein. In 1928 Iggelbach had 725 residents who lived in 135 residential buildings. Both the Catholics and the Protestants belonged to the parish of Elmstein at the time. On February 18, 1988, a military aircraft belonging to Zweibrücken Air Base also crashed in the vicinity of Iggelbach.
Infrastructure
The Kuckucksbähnel , which opened in Elmstein in 1909 , also improved traffic conditions for Iggelbach; meanwhile it is used exclusively for museum traffic. District road 17 , which connects it with Elmstein, runs through Iggelbach . There is also a road to the west that connects it with Bundesstraße 48 and the Eschkopf ; There are also two knight stones in this area . The place is connected to the local traffic via the bus line 517 of the transport association Rhein-Neckar , which connects it with the Neustadt an der Weinstrasse as well as with Lambrecht (Palatinate) . During the summer season it also connects Johanniskreuz and Speyerbrunn . In addition, Iggelbach is on the route of a hiking trail that is marked with a green and yellow cross . This connects Iggelbach with Bexbach , Neustadt an der Weinstrasse and Ludwigshafen am Rhein, among others . A monument zone exists with the town center ; there are also a total of seven individual monuments , including the Protestant church. There is also a pavilion of the Free Religious State Community of Palatinate in the village .
