Mückenwiese is a hamlet that belongs to the Elmstein community in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Bad Dürkheim .
geography
The place is in the middle of the Palatinate Forest in the Elmstein Valley on the Speyerbach . Half a kilometer east of the Weltersbach flows into the Speyerbach and around one kilometer southwest of the Enkenbach . The 516 m high Mückenberg rises to the northwest of the village . South of the settlement area there are two natural monuments : the Stähler fountain - a contained spring - and the Kurfürstenstuhl rock . The closest localities are about five and a half kilometers to the east, the main town of the municipality and one kilometer to the west, the district of Speyerbrunn .
history
The hamlet was built around 1735. The name may indicate wet meadows along the nearby rivers, where numerous mosquitoes live during the summer . The inhabitants were initially employees of the sawmill or forest workers. In 1928 Mückenwiese had 48 residents who lived in seven residential buildings. Both the Catholics and the Protestants belonged to the respective parish of Elmstein at the time.
Culture
At the entrance to the valley of the nearby Weltersbach are the knight stones 109 and 110 . Both are named Welterstal ; the corresponding inscription is carved into the rock in both cases. The former is at the western and the latter at the eastern entrance to the valley. At the entrance to the Enkenbachtal there is also the Ritterstein 112, which indicates the existence of the Mückenwies forester's house , which was closed in 1883 .
