Helmut E. Ehrhardt

Helmut E. Ehrhardt (born March 24, 1914 in Kassel ; † August 19, 1997 in Marburg ) was a German psychiatrist , forensic doctor and university lecturer.

Life

After finishing his school career, Ehrhardt studied medicine , psychology , literature and art history in Munich , Berlin and Breslau from 1934 to 1940 . He received his doctorate in 1939. phil. and in 1941 Dr. med. From 1940 Ehrhardt was employed at the University of Breslau in the medical polyclinic, at the physiological institute and as a department doctor under Werner Villinger at the university neurological clinic. Ehrhardt, a member of the NSDAP since 1937 , was an expert at the hereditary health court .

After the end of the Second World War , he practiced as a resident psychiatrist and neurologist in Kaiserslautern from 1945 to 1949 . From 1949 he was a research assistant at the University of Marburg and in 1950 his habilitation there followed in the subject of psychiatry and neurology. He then worked as a private lecturer at the University of Marburg. From 1955 Ehrhardt was senior physician at the Marburg University Neurological Clinic under Director Villinger. In Marburg Ehrhardt was an adjunct professor from 1956 and from May 1964 professor in the newly created chair for forensics and social psychiatry . From the end of August 1966 until his retirement in March 1982 Ehrhardt headed the Institute for Forensic and Social Psychiatry in Marburg.

Together with Villinger and Nachtsheim , Ehrhardt appeared in the Bundestag Committee for Reparation in 1961 as an expert. The experts were heard on the complex of compensation payments for victims of forced sterilization under the Act for the Prevention of Hereditary Offspring . All experts saw no Nazi injustice in the Hereditary Health Act and so in the 1960s those who were forcibly sterilized did not receive any reparations from the Federal Compensation Act.

Ehrhardt belonged to several medical committees and health organizations: From 1962 to 1970 he was on the executive committee of the German University Association . From 1966 to 1969 he was deputy president of the German Society for Sexual Research . He was a member of the WHO Advisory Board on Mental Health . From 1969 he was on the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Medical Association and President of the German Society for Psychiatry and Neurology . In 1961/64 and 1968/72 he was a member of the Assembly of Delegates of the State Medical Association of Hesse. From 1970 he was the state doctor for the disabled in Hessen and became president of the European League for Mental Hygiene. From 1976 he was an extraordinary member of the German Senate for Medical Training. From 1977 he was on the Federal Health Council . In 1980 he was appointed to the Leopoldina .

Ehrhardt's academic work focused on "medical questions relating to criminal law reform, addiction and the fight against addiction, the reorganization and improvement of psychiatric care, problems with deprivation of liberty and accommodation, patient rights and doctor's duties as well as the relationship between medicine, ethics and law".
