Kurt Henrik Mikael Borgström (* 6. August 1997 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who since March 2018 when the Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League is under contract and in parallel for their farm team, the Springfield Thunderbirds , in the American Hockey League for Use comes.
Career
In his youth, Henrik Borgström worked in the youth department of the Jokerit from his hometown Helsinki. Within the city, he moved to Helsingfors IFK for the 2013/14 season , for whose U18 team he ran from then on in the Jr. B SM-sarja . At the beginning of the 2015/16 season he was accepted into the U20 of the club and came in the Jr. A SM-liiga , the highest junior league in Finland, to 55 points in 40 games, making the center forward as one of the most promising European talents for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft 2016 was traded. In the actual draft, the Florida Panthers then considered him in 23rd position, as did Salawat Julajew Ufa in the KHL Junior Draft 2016 in 50th position.
Borgström then moved to the University of Denver , also in order to get used to North American ice hockey at an early stage, and from then on was there for the Pioneers in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). As a result, the Finn spent two extremely successful years in Denver, so he and his team won the NCAA championship as the best college team in the entire United States in their first year, while he was personally named NCHC Rookie of the Year and entered the NCHC Second All-Star Team and the NCHC All-Rookie Team . As a sophomore, he increased his stats to 52 points from 40 games, so that he was named NCHC Player and Striker of the Year and was included in the NCHC First All-Star Team , while he won the NCHC Championship with the Pioneers . In addition, the attacker was nominated as one of three finalists for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award , which honors the best college player in the country; this was won by Adam Gaudette .
After the end of the 2017/18 college season, Borgström signed an entry-level contract with the Florida Panthers in March 2018 and made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) a few days later .
International
Borgström gained his first international experience with the U20 national team of Finland at the U20 World Cup in 2017 , in which the team, however, was relegated and only finished ninth.
