Henry Padovani (born October 13, 1952 in Bastia , Corsica ) is a French guitarist, founding member of The Police and The Flying Padovanis , played briefly with Wayne County & The Electric Chairs and worked as a music producer and manager.

Childhood and beginnings

At the age of eleven, Henry received a guitar from his uncle, but initially ignored it for three years. At 16, he and school friends joined the band "Lapsus", who played English-language pop music in local dance clubs. Instead of starting his studies at the University of Aix-en-Provence in 1971 , Henry Padovani worked as a DJ in a club.

Artistic career

Here he met Paul Mulligan in 1976, attended a concert by his band The Flaming Groovies , ending with an invitation to London. Henry Padovani decided to stay in England in December 1976 and became friends with Marc Zermati , who in turn introduced him to Stewart Copeland .

From The Police to The Flying Padovanis

Padovani jammed with Stewart Copeland, his brother Ian Copeland and later Sting in punk clubs, and in January 1977 this quartet formed the trio The Police. The Police had numerous live appearances and after a few months they had their first success with the single Fall Out, which was released by an independent label .

As early as June 1977 Andy Summers became guitarist for the band, and in September 1977 Henry joined the band Wayne County & The Electric Chairs .

In 1980 Henry Padovani founded his own guitar instrumental band The Flying Padovanis with further albums / singles up to 1983 and smaller (partially unreleased) productions with other artists, including the song "Cosa Nostra" on the " Johnny Thunders Tribute Album".

Music producer & manager

Between 1984 and 1994, Padovani was Vice President of Miles Copeland III 's - brother of Stewart Copeland and formerly manager of The Police - independent label IRS Records in Paris (bought by EMI in 1993). IRS Records artists included REM , The Bangles , The Gogos, The Cramps , Wall of Voodoo , Stan Ridgway (formerly "WoV" singer), William Orbit , Timbuk 3 , The Alarm , Doctor and the Medics , The Fleshtones , Concrete Blonde , The Act , The Lords of the New Church, and Animal Logic .

He met Zucchero in May 1994 and was again Zucchero's manager together with Miles Copeland from June 1994 to April 2000. In 1997 he also supervised the Corsican band I Muvrini and brought what he is proud of, their music on radio (as a duet with Sting ) and television (video with "Sting" and Laetitia Casta ).

Henry Padovani takes a break from the music business for two years and has produced other artists since 2002, such as the Cuban “casa de la trova” (album “la serenata picante”, May 2002).

Projects from 2004

Disaffected by the artist management, Henry decided to perform as a musician again and began in January 2004 with the meticulous preparations for his solo album and the documentary music film "La Vie comme elle va" (2003) with Jean-Henri Meunier . The recordings for the album ended in 2004 - "A croire que c'était pour la vie".

Particularly noteworthy is the single “Welcome Home” ( remix ), featuring Stewart Copeland and Sting , the first informal reunion of the original Police since the recording of “Fall Out” and “Nothing Achieving”. Manu Katché , Steve Hunter, Glen Matlock (ex Sex Pistols ) and Chris Musto are other prominent guest musicians.

"Secret Police Man" is an (autobiographical) book released on April 25, 2006 containing numerous episodes of the " sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll " lifestyle in London in the late 1970s and early days of "The Police" including pictures to the content.

For Jean Henri Meunier's film "Ici Najac, à vous la Terre" and his solo album, he wrote around 30 songs - "Ici Najac, à vous la Terre" (June 7, 2006) was an official selection at the Festival de Cannes and was included in 2007 awarded to the César .

The Flying Padovani's reformed in early 2007 and released the album "Three for Trouble", followed by a tour in the summer of 2007, including a performance at the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan.

Padovani performed at The Police's reunion concert in Paris in the summer of 2007 towards the end of the concert.

Henry Padovani occasionally performs live with his friend Rachid Taha .
