Herbert Dröse

Herbert Dröse (born May 3, 1908 in Lippehne , Brandenburg Province , † September 24, 1979 in Hanau ) was Lord Mayor of Hanau from May 2, 1962 to December 31, 1971 .

Career

He was a lawyer and initially a city councilor in Emden . After military service and captivity , he settled in Schleswig-Holstein . He became government and state culture council in the local Ministry of Agriculture in Kiel . In 1954 he moved to Wiesbaden as head of the regional cultural department of the then Hessian Ministry of Agriculture and Forests . In 1962 he was elected Lord Mayor of Hanau. He belonged to the SPD .

Term of office as Lord Mayor

The 3rd Hessentag in Hanau (1963) fell during his term of office . The building program carried out in Hanau during his term of office was extensive - due to the time in which he was in office: the city hospital received a high-rise building in 1965, the Neustadt market square an underground car park , a town hall was added to the town hall (has since been demolished), and in 1966 Hanau received a modern sewage treatment plant and residential areas over 4000 apartments. Schools, kindergartens and daycare centers were built. In the cultural area, highlights were the opening of the Hanau Historical Museum in Philippsruhe Castle , the expansion of the German Goldsmith's House and the reopening of the Comoedienhaus in the historic spa complex of Wilhelmsbad in 1967.

After his retirement, Herbert Dröse was President of the Hesse State Association of the German Red Cross (DRK). He was a member of the DRK Presidium at the federal level.

Herbert Dröse died on September 24, 1979 and was buried in the main cemetery in Hanau .

Herbert Dröse was known for his omnipresence and his self-confident demeanor. This earned him the slogan among his citizens: “No din without dread”.
