Lipiany ( German Lippehne ) is a small town in the Powiat Pyrzycki ( Pyritz ) of the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship and the seat of a town and country municipality .

Geographical location

The city is located in the Neumark , about 52 kilometers south-southeast of Szczecin .

history

Lippehne is first mentioned in 1269 as the capital of the Pomeranian country Lippehne ("terra Lipene"). A 'Land Lippehne' is mentioned in a document in 1233 when Bishop Konrad II von Cammin donated 100 Hufen in terra, quae slavice Lipana nuncupatur to the newly built monastery Chorin . However, this could also have meant the village of Liepe west of the Oder .

As early as 1276, the Pomeranian Bishop Hermann von Gleichen in Cammin sold the Land Lippehne for 3000 Marks silver to the Margraves of Brandenburg Johann II. , Otto IV. And Conrad I from the Ascanians . There is no archaeological evidence of a Pomeranian castle as the center of the Lippehne region; But there is some evidence that a Voraskan castle stood in Lippehne. In 1276 the place was called Lyppen . 1302 Lippehne got the town charter. There is no evidence of a castle in Lippehne until 1373. From 1402 to 1455 Lippehne was owned by the Teutonic Order , which acquired the Neumark. From 1455 the Neumark , like Lippehne, was back under Brandenburg rule. The Hussites in 1433 and the Pomeranian dukes Erich II and Wartislaw X in 1467 wreaked havoc in town and country . On April 24, 1616 the city burned down completely and in 1623 the city was repeatedly a victim of the fire.

In 1791 the Jewish community built a synagogue , in 1890 there were 45 Jews out of 3,911 inhabitants in Lippehne. The grave of Moses Moser , one of Heinrich Heine's closest friends, is in the devastated Jewish cemetery .

The town hall of Lippehne was built between 1828 and 1829.

In 1881/82 Lippehne received a railway connection on the line from Stargard in Pomerania to Küstrin . Passenger traffic on this route was closed on April 3, 2000 for reasons of profitability, later also freight traffic. However, this could be reopened on June 1, 2005, but has since been discontinued.

From 1900 water pipes and sewers were laid. From 1920 there was also electricity in the city. In 1939, 4,374 people lived in Lippehne.

Until 1945 the city belonged to the district of Soldin in the Prussian province of Brandenburg .

Towards the end of the Second World War , the city was occupied by the Red Army in the spring of 1945 . Lippehne was only slightly destroyed during the war.

After the end of the war, the region with Lippehne was placed under Polish administration in the summer of 1945 in accordance with the Potsdam Agreement , and Lippehne was renamed Lipiany . In the following years the entire local population was from Lippehne displaced and migrant Poland replaced.
