Margrave Hermann VI. von Baden (* around 1225 ; † October 4, 1250 ) was titular Margrave of Verona and Baden from 1243 to 1250 . From 1243 to 1247 he was together with his brother, Rudolf I, also the ruling Margrave of Baden. By marrying Gertrud von Babenberg , he was briefly Duke of Austria and Styria .

Life

Margrave Hermann VI. was the son of Hermann V. von Baden and the Countess Palatine Irmengard near Rhine . He was from the Zähringer family and had been related by marriage to the Salians and Staufers for three generations.

His father had already entrusted him with government duties in the Landgraviate of Sausenberg during his lifetime . The sons of Hermann VI. and Rudolf I , initially jointly took over the paternal inheritance in 1243. Both sponsored the Lichtenthal monastery founded by their mother .

Hermann VI. In 1247, after marrying into the Austrian ducal family, he left his brother Rudolf I sole rulership over the margraviate of Baden and moved to Austria, where he tried to rule his wife's hereditary lands.

Pope Innocent IV confirmed to Margrave Hermann VI on September 14, 1248. the donation of the Duchy of Austria by his wife Gertrud von Babenberg, and a few months later, on January 31, 1249, the Pope called on the anti-king Wilhelm of Holland , Margrave Hermann VI. to enfeoff with the Duchy of Austria.

Margrave Hermann VI. was not particularly popular with the nobility and was very harsh in his own country too. His widow tried to make amends for the damage caused to the Altenburg monastery near Horn by donating .

After his untimely death in 1250, there were rumors that he had been poisoned, but there is no evidence of this. Hermann was buried in Klosterneuburg Abbey.

Marriage and offspring

Hermann VI. married the widow Gertrud von Babenberg (* 1226; † April 24, 1299) through the mediation of Duke Otto von Bayern around 1248 . The following children were born from the marriage:

  2. ⚭ 1270/71 Ulrich III. von Heunburg († 1308)
