Hermann Otto von Schenck (born March 17, 1824 in Potsdam , † February 4, 1911 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Hermann was the son of Oberforstmeister Wilhelm von Schenck (1764-1835) and his wife Wilhelmine, born von Grolmann (1789-1875). His paternal grandfather was Lieutenant General Wilhelm Friedrich Schenck von Flechtingen , and his mother's side was State Councilor Heinrich Dietrich von Grolman .

Military career

Schenck visited the Friedrich Wilhelm Institute in Berlin and then joined the 8th Hussar Regiment of the Prussian Army on April 26, 1841 . In January 1842 he was transferred to the Guard Hussar Regiment and promoted to Second Lieutenant there in July 1842 . In the following years Schenck rose further and was appointed captain of the squadron on May 31, 1859 . On May 8, 1863, transferred to the 2nd Guard Uhlan Regiment and promoted to Major in March 1866 , Schenck took part in the battle of Königgrätz as a regular staff officer during the war against Austria in the same year for the duration of the mobile relationship . After the end of the war, he was transferred to the staff of the 1st Rhenish Hussar Regiment No. 7 in mid-September 1866 . On March 22, 1868 Schenck was appointed commander of the 1st Silesian Dragoons Regiment No. 4 and in this position was promoted to lieutenant colonel on June 18, 1869 . With his regiment he took part in the battles near Weißenburg , Wörth , Sedan and Mont Valérien during the Franco-German War in 1870/71 .
