Ruler of Lan Xang

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The rulers of Lan Xang were princes or kings of an area in Southeast Asia that was initially called Rajadharani Sri Sudhana (vulgarized Sawa). Except for a few usurpers, they all came from the Khun Lo dynasty .

The actual kingdom of Lan Xang was established by King Fa Ngum in 1353 and lasted until 1706 when it was divided into the sub-kingdoms of Luang Phrabang , Vientiane and Champasak after disputes over the throne . For most of its existence it was tributary to other empires, such as Burma and Siam .
