The Hohe Munde is a 2662  m above sea level. A. high mountain at the east end of the Mieming chain in Tyrol . It consists of the 2662  m high west summit and the 2592  m high east summit, also known as the mouth head .

location

The Hohe Munde rises north of the town of Telfs in the Inn Valley . To the east is the Seefeld plateau with the Leutasch district of Moos . In the north it is separated from the Wetterstein Mountains by the Gaistal valley. To the west, the Mieminger chain continues after the Niedere Munde -Sattel ( 2059  m ) with the 2469  m high Karkopf and the 2719  m high wall .

Climbs

The mountain can be reached from Moos via the Rauthütte ( 1605  m ) on an easy , but good physical condition . The cable car from Leutasch-Moos to the Rauthütte ( Mundelift ) is no longer in operation. After the avalanche winter of 1999 , complex avalanche barriers were built in 2005 on the eastern slopes of the Mundekopf as protection for the Telfer district of Sagl . The completion took place in August 2014.

For sure-footed and experienced mountaineers, the Hohe Munde can also be climbed from Telfs - branching off in Straßberg to the saddle of the Niederen Munde - over the west ridge (passages I (UIAA) , partially insured).

Some climbing routes , some of which are difficult, lead through the north and south walls under both the west and east summits .

It is also possible to climb as a ski tour in spring via the steep eastern flank (up to around 45 degrees) . However, this requires safe snow conditions and a very early breakout.

Tourist development

Andrä Sauter , brother of Anton Sauter and then a forester in Zirl , published the first short report on an ascent of the Hohe Munde in 1829 in the Imperial and Royal Privileged Bothen from and for Tyrol and Vorarlberg . He climbed the mountain of Telfs over the eastern flank to carry out botanical investigations. Hermann von Barth made the first known ascent of the Hohe Munde over the west ridge on August 31, 1871 from Leutasch , avoiding the most difficult ridge passage over a rocky gorge on the south side.

Trivia

1990 the drama was the mouth of Felix Mitterer premiered at the High lips. In 2009, the Tatort episode Tree of Redemption played partially in the summit area of the Hohe Munde.
