The Hohner See is a lake about 12 km west of the city of Rendsburg in the German state Schleswig-Holstein near the village of Hohn . The lake is approx. 71 ha in size and up to 1.0 m deep. It is the last remaining Geestflachsee in the flooded landscape of the Eider-Treene-Sorge lowland . It drains over the gutter to worry and further into the Eider .

meaning

Since 1995 the lake and its surroundings with a total of 364 hectares have been designated as a nature reserve. The Hohner See, the Königsmoor and the Hartshoper Moor were proposed for inclusion in the "List of internationally important wetlands" according to the Ramsar Convention .

Flora and fauna

In and around the lake, many animal and plant species have been preserved to this day that are otherwise already endangered or extinct in Schleswig-Holstein. These include white-tailed eagles , marsh harriers , reed warblers and marsh lice weed . In the old Hohn train station , an exhibition gives an insight into the Hohner See biotope. The Hohner See nature reserve has been part of the Natura 2000 projects FFH area DE-1622-391 "Moore of the Eider-Treene-Sorge-Niederung" and the EU bird sanctuary DE-1622-493 "Eider-Treene-Sorge-Niederung" since 2004. In January 2018, the first management plan for the Hohner See sub-area for both Natura 2000 areas was drawn up by the Integrated Station Eider-Treene-Sorge and West Coast on behalf of the Ministry for Energy Transition, Agriculture, Environment, Nature and Digitization (MELUND) of the State of Schleswig- Holstein created. A wealth of information about the Hohner See was collected there. As an example, a list of the breeding birds there in 2016, see map.
