The Sorgwohld nature reserve is located in Schleswig-Holstein , in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district , northwest of Rendsburg , near the village of the same name, which belongs to the Owschlag municipality , near the Sorge lowland. It was declared a nature reserve on November 6, 1936 and is managed by the Independent Schleswig-Holstein Landscape Board of Trustees - Association for Nature Conservation and Landscape Management eV. The area is the most important inland dune area in Schleswig-Holstein. It is also part of the Natura 2000 network of protected areas . The landscape is characterized by heathland , grasslands and free-standing individual trees such as pines and birches . The area is approximately 2 km long and approximately 300 meters wide. In order to preserve the area in its current form, heather sheep and goats are used for grazing.

The village of Sorgwohld formed a municipality in the Eckernförde district until it was incorporated into Owschlag on April 1, 1941 .

Emergence

The dune landscape in the Sorgwohld consists of so-called dunes accompanying flowing waters that have their origin in the last ice age . The sand transported by the meltwater of the glaciers was deposited here and the wind subsequently shaped the sand into dunes and fields of drifting sand. In the course of time, mosses , silver grass and lichen settled on the sand and thus held the sand in place. In this way a barren sandy soil landscape (dry area) was created. Part of the landscape was later converted into cultivated land through land consolidation . It is planned to expand the area by a further 4 hectares in order to also put the adjacent moorland under protection.

fauna

In the nature reserve many specialized and rare live insects such as velvet spider , Taurus Beetle , painted lady and ammophila . The high insect population will in turn attract many birds. Ground breeders such as partridge and skylark also occur here. A path leads through the area, a detour of the Ochsenweg also leads along here. Some parts of the open spaces are fenced.

In May 2018, the canopy spider Ceraticelus bulbosus (Emerton, 1882), which is extremely rarely documented throughout Europe , was found on the heather, which is also the first record for Schleswig-Holstein .
