The Fockbeker Moor is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein communities of Fockbek and Hohn in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district .

The approximately 379  hectare nature reserve is registered under number 184 in the directory of nature reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas. It was declared at the end of 2002 (date of regulation: November 20, 2009). The largest part of the nature reserve also forms the 375 hectare FFH area of the same name . The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district.

The nature reserve is located northwest of Rendsburg . It protects a raised bog on the edge of terminal moraines directly to the east . The moor has been greatly changed by drainage and peat removal . Areas used for agriculture and forestry that surround the moor are included in the nature reserve. The Knüll farm, which is located within the nature reserve, and adjacent areas are excluded from the scope of the nature conservation ordinance.

The moor has been drained and used since the beginning of the 19th century. Intensive use began in 1817. From 1827 the peat was also used industrially as fuel by the Carlshütte , an ironworks . The use of the moor lasted until the 1950s. Of the 620 hectare moorland, around 200 hectares have not been peeled off or have remained in a condition suitable for renaturation .

Maintenance measures have been carried out in the moor since 1980. So were drainage ditches closed in the bog, so the rewetting to reach the moor, lined with grass Torfbänke leveled and on these surfaces then Heath settled and the birch trees vegetation largely entkusselt , in order to reduce water evaporation. The protection of the moor with its edge areas serves to preserve the area as a habitat for the characteristic fauna and flora. As a further measure, the grasslands bordering the moor are to be developed as lagg areas. Furthermore, the development of heather areas and natural oak and beech forests should be promoted.

The moorland is characterized by a largely tree-free, open area. Old peat cuttings are filled with water. They are slowly silting up. In the bog are u. a. Find peat moss , rosemary heather , cranberry , cotton grass and sundew . Moor and grass frog , adder , grass snake , forest lizard and slow worm occur. The water areas are u. a. Habitat of dragonflies such as the early adonis dragonfly , horseshoe damsel and great pitch dragonfly . The moor is the habitat of numerous birds , some of which also breed here. So come u. a. Wood sandpiper , little grebe , coot , curlew , common snipe , redshank and lapwing . The short-eared owl also breeds in the moor, and the black-headed and common gulls have breeding colonies here.

The moor drains through ditches primarily to the Dorbek, which flows south into the Fockbeker See .

A cycling and hiking trail runs through the nature reserve as part of a circular route of the municipality of Fockbek. There is a viewing platform on this path within the nature reserve. The nature reserve is looked after by the Independent Kuratorium Schleswig-Holstein Landscape - Association for Nature Conservation and Landscape Management in cooperation with the Naturschutzbund Deutschland and the Landesjagdverband Schleswig-Holstein .
