Katja Holanti

Katja Holanti (born April 5, 1974 in Vehkalahti ) is a former Finnish biathlete .

Katja Holanti lives in Joensuu and started for Vehkalahden Veikot . Since 1990, it operated biathlon and entered in the 1993 Biathlon World Cup on. In her first race, an individual in Lillehammer , she reached 19th place and immediately won World Cup points. However, it then took a long time for the Finn to achieve a similarly good placement again. At the Olympic Games in 1994 she started in singles (56th) and with the relay (10th). Holanti achieved better placements at the 1995 Biathlon World Championships in Antholz . There she was 38th in the individual, 36th in the sprint and ninth with the Finnish relay. A year later , Holanti achieved a very good result in Ruhpolding with 12th place in the individual alongside 46th place in the sprint. Holanti achieved his first very good result in the World Cup in 1996 in Östersund when he finished fourth with the Finnish relay. Also at the 1997 World Cup in Osrblie she was able to achieve a single-digit placement for the first time. Finland finished sixth in the team competition. Added to this is 46th place in the individual, 20th in the sprint, 22nd in the pursuit and tenth place in the relay.

In 1998 , Holanti again took part in the Olympic Games in Nagano . She started in the individual (45th) and the sprint (46th). Shortly after the games, the Finn managed to finish ninth in the sprint in Hochfilzen for the first time in the top ten in a World Cup race. In addition, she won the bronze medal in the team competition with Tiina Mikkola , Mari Lampinen and Sanna-Leena Perunka at the 1998 World Cup , whose pursuit race (29th place) was based on the Olympic sprint . Holanti was also quite successful at the 1999 World Cup in Kontiolahti . After 15th place in the sprint, she made it to seventh place in the pursuit and also finished sixth in the relay. The 2000 World Championships went less well with placings beyond 25. The 2001 World Cup in Pokljuka went even worse with results beyond 50 and one lap in the pursuit. Holanti's final 2001/02 season was also her best. The Finn won the sprint race in Osrblie and thus achieved her only victory. She also took third place in the individual. In the overall ranking of the season, she was able to reach 20th place. The last major event for the Finn was the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . There she was 13th in the individual, 52nd in the sprint and 46th in the pursuit. After the season she ended her career.
