Horst Knapp (journalist)
Horst Knapp (born April 10, 1925 in Vienna ; † January 7, 1996 there ) was an Austrian business journalist .
Life
From 1946 to 1950 Knapp worked as an editor for United Press International , later as a freelance journalist. From 1960 he was editor of the weekly economic policy financial news . In addition to this main activity, he was a columnist and commentator in various Austrian daily newspapers and for ORF .
In 1967 Knapp caused a sensation with Big Bargain , a solidarity pact he proposed between the social partners , the government and the central bank with the aim of warding off impending cost inflation.
Knapp was buried in the Hernals cemetery .
Note: He is confused with Horst Knapp, the German entrepreneur of the same name (Schaco G. Schanzenbach & Co., Frankfurt-Bockenheim) and association politician (1918–1984).

Horst Knapp Prize
In his honor, UniCredit Bank Austria has donated the Prof. Horst Knapp Prize for outstanding achievements in business journalism every year since 1996 . The prize, endowed with 7,000 euros, is awarded by an independent jury - currently chaired by Ewald Nowotny , the former governor of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank.
