In the year 880 a place called “Halmhova” is listed in the property records of the Prüm Abbey . Halmhova (= grain yard) is the first name for Hoven . Hoven was destroyed several times during the Thirty Years' War , especially in 1647 by Hessian troops.

Both places came under Jülich rule in the 14th century and remained under Jülich until 1794.

The name Floren appears as a Vlurne in 1218 . It is derived from the Roman goddess Flora . The grounds of the former Everhard von Hengebach estate in Floren can still be seen today.
