The Huata District is located in the Puno Province in the Puno Region in southern Peru . The district was established on August 22, 1921. It has an area of ​​129 km². The 2017 census counted 3,302 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2925, in 2007 it was 6682. The district administration is located in the 3848  m high village of Huata with 384 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huata is located 26 km northeast of the regional and provincial capital Puno .

Geographical location

The Huata district is located on the west bank of Lake Titicaca in the north of the Puno province.

The district of Huata borders in the south on the district Paucarcolla , in the west on the district Caracoto ( province of San Román ) and in the northeast on the district Coata .
