IC 3686 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 900 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 270,000 light-years across. It is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 1927 , but is far too far away for that.
The galaxies IC 3690 , IC 3693 , IC 3702 , IC 3704 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Royal Harwood Frost on May 10, 1904 .
