IC 3687 is an irregular galaxy of the Hubble type IBm in the constellation Hounds in the northern sky . It is an estimated 18 million light years from the Milky Way and has a maximum extent of about 12,000 light years . Together with 23 other galaxies, it forms the NGC 4258 group ( LGG 290 ) and is listed as a member of the Canes Venatici I group .
The object was discovered by Max Wolf on March 21, 1903 .
