IC 3731 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is an estimated 530 million light years from the Milky Way and is 80,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4640 , IC 3710 , IC 3718 , IC 3720 .
The object was discovered by Royal Harwood Frost on May 10, 1904 .
