IC 4870 is an active , irregular galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type IBm in the constellation Peacock in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 35 million light years from the Milky Way and about 15,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered by DeLisle Stewart in September 1900 .
